The battle against viruses and cyber attacks

Updated: Apr 22, 2023

Computer Viruses

To understand what happens to computers when they have a virus, it's essential to know what computer viruses are. Viruses are malware that when once run into the system of a computer, spreads throughout (Computer Virus: What Are Computer Viruses? , 2023.).

Viruses can make computers vulnerable to computer hackers looking for private information. It's important that citizens on the web understand the importance of cyber attacks to know what to look out for and avoid scams.

Computer viruses can be aggravating to get rid of when it happens to anyone personally. In order to protect people from these offenses it's important that the causes of the viruses are discussed. Viruses are usually made by cyber attackers with either criminal or political intent. Viruses help attackers with finding victims' passwords or any personal information giving them the opportunity to steal anything valuable.

Politically, cyber attackers use this opportunity to gather attention within their community or to whomever they are targeting.

Cyber Security and Protection

To adapt to the fast-evolving viruses and cyber attacks, cyber protection has become more popular in this recent generation.

"Cybersecurity is the practice of defending your networks, systems, and applications from cyberattacks" (What Is Cyber Protection? - Definition, Importance, Types, Cost - Acronis, n.d.).

Unfortunately, cyber attacks can come from improved tactics which are why education is crucial in protecting families online. User education can provide resources and practices like keeping your computer's software up to date. A lot of computer owners become very dependent don't their devices but often don't keep up with the maintenance.

( Riskoptics, 2023)

Since computer viruses can only be activated by an action of a person, it's important to know what not to click on when online. Considering that the number of cyber threats is increasing as technology advances, it is best to only click links that are recognizable.

Child-use Saftey

For adolescents and younger individuals, it can be easy for children to become influenced or impacted by the internet a lot easier than adults. Young perceptions can often lead to easy influence so it is important that children don't get overexposure due to social media. Overexposure is excessive exposure to excessive media coverage, usually unhealthy.

The spread of misinformation is often a result of overexposure, especially among young individuals. Parental controls on a laptop can improve the protection of children giving them a safe and fun experience. Thus, preventing children from falling for any schemes online. Talking with your kids is important too!!

"ChildSafety reports there are around 500,000 online predators searching for victims each day" (McGlothin, 2000).

Depending on the child's age it might be best to have supervised computer time. It's important that kids understand that stranger danger can happen both in real life and on the internet.

Wrap it up

In today's world, the Internet is very important in today's society which makes cybersecurity crucial to keep a fun and safe environment for you and your family. Here are some security options that are great for all computers (Jnguyen, 2022).

  • Network Security

  • Information Security

  • Internet Security.

  • Web Application Security

Technology is becoming updated on a constant basis, and having multiple and updated forms of security is a great way to have a secure safety lock on all your digital information.
